Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in width overall consisting of a blue disc bearing a red machine nut centered over a gold sword, between two arching red wrenches all over a gold hemispherical gear wheel; below, with each end turned back and conjoined with the handles of the wrenches, a red motto scroll bearing in gold letters the words "FAITH AND COURAGE."

Symbolism
Crimson and light blue are the colors traditionally used by Maintenance units, the previous unit designation.  The gear wheel, machine nut and wrenches reflect implements associated with the maintenance mission.  The sword refers to the Battalion's origin as Infantry.  The blue field combined with the elements alludes to the unit's original and current home, Tallassee, Alabama, which means "captured town" and suggests the Tallapoosa River that divides the town.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved for the 731st Maintenance Battalion on 2 November 1979.  It was redesignated for the 731st Support Battalion with the description updated and symbolism revised effective 1 September 2008.
